Fantasy is a male dominated genre, and this formula is completely betrayed by Game of Thrones. While it features many wonderful male heros, about half of it’s viewpoint cast is women. Women who rule by the crown or sword. Women with strong hearts and sharp minds. Women who explicitly defy their gender roles and become rulers like Cersei and Dany…or become a fierce warrior like Ayra. Women who valiantly face all odds and survive at all costs like Sansa and Catelyn. to say that these woman are forces to be reckoned with don’t nearly give them enough credit. They are main characters. They don’t just stand around to look pretty or make the men look like heros. They ARE heros.
